To all my readers, I must apologize for skipping yesterday’s post. My pain level was way higher than usual, so I took the day to rest. However, I am all ready to give you guys all something really good today. Today we are going to be discussing the myth “If someone really wants to die by suicide, there is nothing anyone can do about it” so lets dive right in.

I will start off by saying that is complete and utter BS! At the end of the day there are many many reasons a Veteran considers suicide, they are feeling helpless, hopeless, worthless, they are going through bad life situations, they feel lost, they feel alone, they feel like no one cares, they feel like no one listens to them, I mean I could keep going because it is different for everyone but the list is so long. Heck for that matter it has come to a point where Male Veterans are 4 times more likely to die by suicide than other groups, including civilians.

There is so much false information out there about this subject, even from the VA. The VA according to their most recent annual report say that the numbers of veteran suicides are dropping year after year since 2018 due to changes they have, even claiming that over 70% of Veteran Suicides are outside of the VA Healthcare System, meaning they do not treat those Veterans. So basically they are touting that they are doing such a great job, that it is everyone else’s fault. I will just say, talk to a Veteran, not only do we know how corrupt and horrible the VA is, but when we read claims like that it’ll make one laugh for a second because we know and can see the BS that they’re putting out, but then it brings on anger because it is crap like this that is being put out that people take as fact so they cannot see the real truths, however if you look past all the malarkey and garbage, you can in fact find out just how bad this issue really is. The VA SUCKS and NEEDS to do better, but as long as they remain political they do not care about us.

So back to the myth, when someone talks about suicide, that is a HUGE cry for help. They aren’t telling you in order to hear themselves talk. Opening up for a LOT of Veterans is a very difficult thing to do, especially with something so personal that is making them feel weak. No need to overreact or freak out, just simply be there for them, talk to them, show them that they matter to you and that you care for them. Don’t brush them off, don’t push them aside, don’t act as if nothing will happen, don’t act as if they’re over-exaggerating when they express what they are feeling, and DO NOT invalidate their feelings. When you do things like I just mentioned, it makes them feel like you don’t give care about them or their feelings, so they lock them back up and stop letting them out, that is one of the worst things that can happen.

Alright, well I will see y’all tomorrow, take care of each other.
