One of the biggest myths regarding suicide, but ESPECIALLY prevalent amongst Veteran Suicides is “they are weak.”

I can assure you, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Veterans are some of the strongest and hardened people you will ever meet in your life. If you know or have met a veteran, you know someone who will forsake themselves and risk their own life, staring death in the face without batting an eye, to protect not only those they love and care for, but also those they have never met. Most people couldn’t begin to fathom the amount of pressure service-members have placed on them, no matter what their “job title” is, and they hold onto it and it stays with them far after they’ve left. We have become so used to seeing things all over the news and social media about “safe spaces” and how needed they have become for people, to the point where there are major employers now even providing areas like that for their employees, that the whole Veteran Suicide issue is often overlooked, talked down by “fact checkers” and other lame stream media liars, or used derogatorily in a way to make someone feel weak. “Walk a mile in their shoes” is something I tell people a lot, especially when it comes to this issue. Majority of people could not do it, otherwise they would have made the decision to do so.

Leave the judging for how your steak is cooked. As a society we need to stand behind our Veterans, we need to be there for them, and we need to support them.
