People who choose to enlist to serve their country are all affected differently, because it is a different experience for everyone, plus everyone is different. When we raise our right hand and swear that oath to the Constitution, we do so knowing that we could pay the ultimate price, after all we are being trained to kill when the time comes. It is the type of training that changes a person, literally changes everything about them. We are trained to do whatever is necessary, with zero hesitation, at a moments notice, and to do so and not let it eat you up inside. We know that if we hesitate that could mean one of our battle buddies dies. Split second no hesitation decisions is what we are taught, no second guessing your decision, oh no that is saved for after, in the quiet and the dark, in your own mind when no one else is around, that is when you pick apart those decisions and play the ol’ “what if” game.

The things a typical Veteran have seen would not only haunt your normal person, it would break them completely, ESPECIALLY in today’s world of “safe spaces.” You see, in war there are no safe spaces, and every single person who joins to serve their country is trained for the realities of war. The only safe space you have in war is your battle buddy, they have your back and you have theirs. You see, bullets, mortars, rockets, bombs, and every other “weapon of war” are all discrimination free, they don’t care what race you are, they don’t care what religion you are, they don’t care what gender you are, they don’t care about your family, they don’t care who you choose to sleep with, they don’t care who you vote for, they don’t care how much money you have, they don’t care what you drive, and they don’t care where you lay your head down at night.

When you go through the type of training that gets you in the mindset and ready for that type of reality, things that used to bother you don’t bother you any more. You learn to compartmentalize things, you are hardened, you learn to push things down to “deal with” later on, even though later sometimes never happens. We learn to “deal with” things in our own way, sometimes that means pushing it down deep inside, into the deep pile that is within us, and not dealing with it.

Alright that is enough for tonight. Love every one of y’all, especially my fellow Vets, if ANY of my fellow Vets need someone to talk to, please reach out to me, I am ALWAYS here for you.
